Building on success in 2014

The opening of our new head office and Lonsdale Financial Spa® was a momentous occasion for BlueShore Financial but just one of many breakthrough accomplishments in 2014.

The new custom-built BlueShore Centre is part of the rejuvenation of the central Lonsdale commercial district in North Vancouver. The 60,000 square foot building also includes space for four retail tenants and is adjacent to The Prescott condominiums. With many distinct features, BlueShore Centre reflects a West Coast contemporary Zen theme, unlike any other financial institution anywhere.

As presenting sponsor of the Vancouver Sun Run, we had the opportunity to promote an important wellness activity while including more than 100 of our staff as runners and volunteers, and generating significant awareness of our brand.

We expanded our sponsorship presence in 2014. As presenting sponsor of the Vancouver Sun Run, we had the opportunity to promote an important wellness activity while including more than 100 of our staff as runners and volunteers, and generating significant awareness of our brand. We were pleased to sponsor several other events related to wellness including presenting the Vancouver Triathlon, the BlueShore Financial Spirit of the Shore Half Marathon and the Whistler Half Marathon.

Fostering a vibrant cultural scene is also a priority. In 2014, BlueShore Financial provided support for Capilano University’s BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts, Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival, Cornucopia (Whistler) and the Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation for Young Artists. In addition to the “Arts in View” displays at our Financial Spas, which showcase the works of local artists, we opened “Arts in View on Lonsdale”, a public art display in the plaza windows of our new BlueShore Centre head office.

Enhancing employee engagement

Our growth and success are directly linked to the efforts of our employees, a remarkably hard-working and talented team focused on delivering extraordinary service for our clients. We were proud to be named a "50 Best Small and Medium Employer in Canada" for the fourth consecutive year. Our 2014 Employee Opinion Survey found that at least 90% of our employees rated BlueShore Financial highly for effective leadership from senior leaders, reputation in our local community and a work environment that accepts individual differences. More than one-third of new hires last year came as a result of employee referrals. Our strong corporate culture and innovative people practices were also recognized by a 2014 Canadian HR Award.

Supporting our communities

We continued our long-standing tradition of community support in 2014 by contributing to numerous charitable causes. This included maintaining long-term partnerships with BC Children's Hospital, Capilano University, Family Services of the North Shore, North Shore Rescue and Whistler Health Care Foundation. As an Imagine Canada Caring Company, BlueShore Financial invests a minimum of 1% of pre-tax profits in community charities and not-for-profit organizations.

Our employees also support numerous worthy initiatives as individuals. We encourage staff to volunteer for causes that matter to them through our "Making Waves" program, which provides employees with one paid day off a year to volunteer, plus financial donations to their chosen causes.
